How can I access Stata?
Answer
Mason does not provide individual licenses for student computers.
Most students will use ITS' Citrix Virtual lab or purchase their own license.
- The Virtual Lab allows you to remotely connect to a virtual computer that has Stata installed.
- PROs: It is free. You can connect from any location. You can easily access files on OneDrive or your local computer.
- CONs: You also have to connect to the VPN if you are not on campus. It is a Windows computer. If you save files on the virtual computer, they will disappear when you close.
- Purchasing a license allows you to have access without that hassle.
- Stata/BE is typically sufficient for most classes. It will not open very large datasets, but you can load a subset of data if needed.
- Students have the option of a 6 month license for ~$50. A 1 year license is ~ $100.
